Ballroom dance competitions
1997: Harvard, in newcomer foxtrot and swing, one callback apiece
Other traveling
1970: Western Europe, en route to the ICM.
1974,5: Carribean, Grand Tetons. (This is a bit hazy.)
1977: Iceland.
1983: Italy.
1985: England, Belgium, Holland, Austria, Germany, Italy, France.
1989: Spring break: Yugoslavia. Istanbul one weekend. And I went to Asia
for lunch.
1991,2: Central and northern California. (Also Caltech and the Bay Area
in most of the next several years.)
1991,2: Mexico, including Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta, Sayulita,
Tzintzuntzan, and a bunch of other places, particularly to see
the eclipse in '91.
1993: Edinburgh
and York, on my way to a juggling convention. Also drove cross-country
(or rather, was driven).
1994: Boulder, for ScurveFest '94.
1994: Edinburgh
again and Oxford, on my way to a conference.
(Here are some memorable quotes
from that trip.)
1995: In addition to the five countries mentioned under juggling, I went to
Hungary and England.
1996: January, hitting the lecture circuit in California (SF, Berkeley,
Santa Barbara, LA, speaking at UCSC, UCR, and Caltech).
Summer: France, Switzerland, Holland.
1997: The usual, a spring California romp (missing the 3 ft snowfall on
April Fools') and not one but two trips to Switzerland. Rather bad
planning, really.
1998: Japan in January, hitting the Bay Area on the way back.
Then May's annual pilgrimage to Geneva.
1999: Lots of Europe this summer. Month each in Geneva and Lausanne,
with side trips mentioned under juggling and math, also to Murren.
Stopped in Boston to ship my stuff, then cruised on the Black Sea
to Athens, Istanbul, Nessebur, Odessa, and Yalta, finally seeing
my second full eclipse.
2001: Honeymooned in Australia.
