    Street parking (on Hill, Holliston, Michigan, Del Mar, Wilson, California, or Arden) is easiest.

  • Sunday, July 15th
    10:30am-???: Picnic at Switzer Falls
    Switzer Falls is located in the San Gabriel Mountains at around 3000 ft. The picnic site is in the shade and next to a stream.
    There's an easy to moderate trail that starts at the picnic site and leads to the falls.

    We'll be meeting at 10:30am at the Saga Motor Hotel (1633 E Colorado Blvd). Please arrive with a lunch and snacks.
    We'll try to go together in as few cars as possible (so as to use up few parking spaces in the parking lot up there, which fills up quickly),
    with arrangements taking form the previous day.

    If you prefer to arrive at the picnic later, and therefore drive there separately, here are the directions:
    From Caltech, take Hill Avenue north
    Go west on the 210 freeway - stay right in order to avoid getting on the 134. The 210 will curve towards the north.
    After approximately 5 miles, exit at the Angeles Crest Highway and turn right. (Hwy 2 east)
    Drive up into the mountains for approx. 10 miles, and purchase a parking pass from the ranger at Clear Creek Information Station (to the right)
    The Switzer Falls picnic area entrance is approx. 100 yards past the ranger station, also to the right.

    The earlier you get there, the lower you can park. The parking lot often fills up in the summer by noon or one,
    and the gates close to cars arriving later.
