About the instructor:
Mark Chamness has over 15 years of experience in Shotokan Karate. He trained directly under Tsutomu Ohshima, who was a direct student of Gichin Funakoshi, who introduced karate to Japan from Okinawa and founded Shotokan Karate. Chamness was awarded his Black Belt rank by Ohshima and has taught karate in New York City.

Outside of Karate, Chamness has a B.S. in Physics from the California Institute of Technology. He did graduate work at Brown University where he conducted research with Nobel Laureate, Leon Cooper, at the Institute for Brain and Neural Systems. Subsequently, he worked in New York City doing quantitative analysis of mortgage-backed securities. He currently works as a Software Engineer in Silicon Valley.
