Game Networking API's

DirectPlay, part of DirectX. Only for Win32.
NetSprocket. Only for MacOS.
RTime's RTime SDK
PenginNetPlay, a planned part of the Linux Game SDK. Not yet ready for prime time.
Grandmaster Technologies' Java game SDK
MÄK Technologies, Inc.'s DIS-Lite (sales pitch only)
The U.S. Department of Defense's High Level Architecture (HLA = DIS++)
MPath Foundation (proprietary)
TEN must have some API- and they even support Java- but I haven't seen their SDK yet.

Note: many search engines list game networks. For example, www.itf.org has a good list.

Kali - The first and best free gaming network!
KAHN
Mplayer - the big guns. Recently stopped charging for some games.
TEN - another big gun. They like to have downloadable shareware versions of their supported games.
Westwood Studios - The makers of Command & Conquer. Here's the home page for Westwood Chat.
Igames - a smallfry newcomer. Bundles several free games.
Grandmaster Technologies - Java-based. Here's their development kit.
