Dear News System Administrator:

I am pleased to announce the creation of a new usenet group: 
miami.general.  This newsgroup is dedicated to the discussion of issues
pertaining to the Greater Miami (South Florida, USA) metropolitan area. 
It is a catch-all group, i.e., it is intended to discuss as broad a
spectrum of topics as possible--restaurants, traffic problems, shopping,
crime, corrupt politicians, festivals, education, etc. 

Although the group is intended to be a focal point for residents to
discuss matters which affect the city and surrounding vicinities, it will
also serve as a window to the world.  Folks who plan to visit the area or
who have an interest in the city will be able to monitor its pulse through
the group. 

Please refer to the table below from the U.S. Census Bureau. The Greater
Miami area is the 11th largest in the United States, with a population of
more than 3 million people--larger than some countries which have their
own soc.culture.* newsgroup.  Including former residents, visitors, and
friends of the city, the 3 million figure is only a fraction of the number
of potential readers of the group.

Initially, Miami will have just this newsgroup, which ought to attract a
critical mass of users, rendering the group viable. Eventually, the group
may splinter off into particular sub-categories, for example politics,
restaurants, etc., if message volume so warrants.
