Until 1996, I worked at Digidesign, Inc. as a DSP Engineer. What does that mean? Well, Digidesign is the leading manufacturer of DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations). Their flagship product, ProTools, allows post-production and music recording engineers to record digital audio directly to hard disk using a Macintosh.

The real beauty of the system, though, is the editing capability. ProTools allows the user to perform all kinds of editing, from simple cut/paste splicing to complicated audio effects. The latter is my area of expertise.

The ProTools system utilizes one or more DSP Farms to process audio and perform mixing tasks. Each farm contains 4 to 6 Motorola 56k DSPs, which are harnessed by software add-ons called Plug-Ins.

I also maintained an Official Unofficial Digidesign web site for a while; now that Digi has their own site up (www.digidesign.com), I've let it slide.
