Populus balsamifera, black: ovate to triangular leaves, lighter below, finely serrate with rounded teeth, rounded petolies. Populus fremontii, Fremont's: widely deltoid leaves with roughly scalloped margins, bright green surfaces both above and below, and flattened petioles.
