Where does one buy gore-tex by the yard, anyway?? It's not actually that hard to get most modern materials. Ray Jardine lists a few places in his excellent book "Beyond Backpacking". You can look around on the web.
Here is a list of some on-line sources for raw materials:
|
Quest Outfitters: the full range of materials, I've used these guys a lot. Rockywoods Fabrics: the full range of materials, I've never used them. The Rain Shed: good selection, used to be more expensive. Seattle Fabrics: good selection, I might have used them once. Thru-Hiker.com: ultra-light silicone-impregnated ripstop and a few kits. |
And here are some other resources:
|
Ray Jardine: the "ray-way" -- beware the egotm. Tarptent.com: tarp-tents. GoLite: lightweight gear, sort of in the Jardine style. |
