-180 @ the Commerce Casino

I go to work early (by choice) so playing on a weeknight can result in a tough time getting up the next morning. But that really isn’t a problem if you leave early after having dumped $180 in less than an hour. I played exactly four hands. Two I misplayed, and two I had bad luck:

Pocket 5 in late position when I first sat down. Many callers in front of me so I limp. Flop is A hearts, 5 hearts and J diamonds. The bet is $15, everyone else folds and it comes to me. I raise $30 more. That was a mistake. The fellow almost certainly has an A, which means he can’t be on a flush or straight draw. So unless he has AJ (which he probably would have raised pre-flop), I am way ahead and shouldn’t be concerned about the flush draw (which was why I bet it so hard, I was trying to protect my set). He folded. I could have probably gotten more money if I played it correctly.

AJ as the small blind. The bet is 15, many callers. Flop J,9,5 rainbow. The pot is about $100, so I go all in for $85. Everyone folds except the guy who had a set of 9s. I’m dead. I shouldn’t have bet it that hard as the number of callers surely meant there were pocket pairs and a set was a distinct possibility. But even if I had bet $40 at the pot and I had been raised, would I have called when it was raised by the set? I think that I would have had to.

Pocket J. I make it $15, get a few callers. Flop 10,9,2 rainbow. I bet $30, get one caller and a raise to $80 by the same guy who had the 9s on the last hand. I fold. He had another set of 9s which proceed to fill up. The next hand he has pocket 10s which fill up as well. This guy had $1200 in front of him.

QJ suited in early position. The bet is $15, I go all in for $15 more. Get two callers. Flop was all rags, then a J on the turn, then another rag. The suited 36 has made his straight.

Time to go home.
