Anne Engh (MN90) writes: After attending NYSC, I went on to Iowa State. I switched majors a few times and eventually ended up with a BS in Animal Ecology in 1995. While getting my degree, I got quite a bit of field experience in nifty places like Antarctica and southern Chile, and since then, I've taken on a rather nomadic existence. I'm currently a grad student at Michigan State. I study the behavior of spotted hyenas. My interests in behavior are diverse, but I seem to be heading toward interactions involving genetics/immunology on behavior. I'll restrain myself here, but I can talk for hours about how cool hyenas are. Besides humans, they are the only mammal in which females are dominant to males :) They also act like primates and have highly masculinized genitalia. All in all, it's pretty fun stuff to study. Beyond school (is there a life outside of school?), I tend to spend my time backpacking, x-c skiing, and petting my cat bald. I'd be happy to hear from other NYSCers!

Clara Chang (NY90) writes: I'm at Harvard Medical School busily studying to become a doctor. Although I briefly toyed with the idea of hand surgery, I think some kind of general practice (family or internal medicine/pediatrics) is for me. I'm applying all over the country for residency spots. When will I ever have a _real_ job? :)

Erica Umback (SD90) writes: My staph history is as follows: 1992 - Counselor & Music Asst. (aka Woody's right-hand woman) 8^) 1993 - Unit Leader & Music Area Coordinator (that kept me way busy) 1994 - United Leader for the Mountaineer Camp (couldn't make it to NYSC) 1996 - Administrative Aide for Operations That's it. I'd love to keep going back, but next summer I'll be doing internships. P.S. Oh, and yeah, I still play the piano at camp. 8^) I've graduated with my MS in Occupational Therapy from USD. I took a job at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN.

Kerry Yurewicz (MI90) says: I graduated from the University of Michigan in 1994 with a B.S. in Biology. After taking a year off from school, I returned to UM and am now in my third year of a Ph.D. program in Ecology, Evolution and Organismal Biology. My work is focusing on the community ecology of tadpoles and larval salamanders - meaning that I spend most of my summers wading through ponds and swamps (and enjoying it)!

Matthew Leigh (UT90) writes: Hello y'all. Here's what I've been up to for the last few years. I went to school at Brigham Young University, where I majored in physics and minored in math. I also served a two year LDS mission in Atlanta Georgia. I've been married for awhile now. We have a 3 month old son, Christian. Believe me, it's a whole lot funner to play with him than to do homework. I also had a chance to work a summer internship with American Laser Co., a medical laser manufacturer. I am presently a graduate student at the University of Iowa, still in Physics. (You think I would've learned by now.) My intrests are in solid state optics. One of these days I'll make a home page, and send y'all my adress. Hope to see some of you again. p.s. Keith Schneider (MO90) mentions: After diversions in physics and astronomy degrees, and teaching high school for a year in Alabama, I'm now back in graduate school at the University of Rochester Department of Brain & Cognitive Science. I'm currently doing some brain imaging studies of visual attention, among other things. I hope to graduate before the century's out.

Helene Grogan (NY90) writes: As for me... I graduated from MIT with a BS in physics (minor in Russian studies, which I enjoyed much more and was much better at) and was commissioned a 2nd Lt in the Air Force after finishing my ROTC program. I'm stationed at Fort Meade in MD now, doing physics-related work on stuff I can't really talk about. :) But it's fun, and I occasionally get to travel. I got quite sick of physics around my junior year, so I don't plan to continue school in that subject, and unfortunately I haven't been able to continue at all since I keep having schedule conflicts or full classes get in the way. I'm planning to get out of the AF in about two years, when my committment's done, and try to stay on at the civilian agency I'm working for. What I'd *really* like to do is write full time, but I haven't even tried selling anything (I've had two poems published from a nationwide contest that seems to pretty much accept anything that looks like a poem, so it doesn't mean that much) so I certainly don't expect to make much money from it.
