Sara's Dinner Rolls

Leif's grandmother would make these rolls for most dinners.


½ cupshortening
¼ cupsugar
1 tspsalt
1egg, beaten
1 cupboiling water
1yeast cake or package
4 cupsflour


Cream together shortening and sugar. Add boiling water and salt. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water (about 3 Tbsp is enough). When first mixture is lukewarm, add dissolved yeast and egg. Stir well, add flour one cup at a time mixing well to make a soft dough. Store in refrigerator (can keep up to a week). Shape into rolls. Place on cookie sheet. Allow to rise (2 to 3 hours). Bake ten minutes in 425°F oven.
