General About Me

• My Name: Lixin (Synonym of "Innovation") or Tony (meaning "Praiseworthy" or "Stylish").
• My Hometown: JiangSu province of China ("Jiang" means "River"; "Su" means "Fish + Rice", or "Awakening").
• High School: ChangZhou High School (one of four Distinguished senior highs in JiangSu province)
• Bachelor: Biology, Magna Cum Laude, Univ. of Sci. and Tech. of China (the Leading university in China).
• Master: Biomedical Engineering & Instrumentation, Graduate school of Univ. of Sci. and Tech. of China.

I am a Ph.D. graduate student in the Biology Division at California Institute of Technology,
one of the America's Best Universities, and ranked #1 in Year 2000

I am currently in the Neuroscience Program (rated top impact of research in the U.S.)
and working on my Ph.D. thesis research with Dr. Erin M. Schuman, one of the Youngest professors here at Caltech.

I am expected to get my Ph.D. degree from Caltech in the April of 1999.

Biology Work

• Neural network modeling (cerebellum)
• Structure-function study of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor
• DNA cloning of receptor-linked protein tyrosine phosphatases (R-PTP)
• My ongoing PhD research work focused on structural and functional role of
  the adhesive cellular protein in learing and memory in the adult brain.
  This protein plays an important role in learning and memory, my research shows.

Software Engineering Projects

A few projects done include data acquisition and analysis program for Master's thesis,
human genome database manager, assemblers, etc.
