My Favorite Way to Learn Words
This is not an easy way to learn words but I (and many other MIPT students) found it very effective. It will require some effort and persistence from you. But it will pay of, I promise :-)
Fist you need to make paper cards. I usually used "listochki v kletku" and cut the pieces 4cm by 5cm (you can choose your own size and paper). This was good because the card fit into the box from matches. You write the English word, its transcription and possibly sample sentence or expression on one side and Russian translation on another.
Now you need to find or a make a box with 6 compartments. Now attention,
here comes the recipe for success.
In the first compartment you put new words (the ones you just wrote on the card), you should repeat words (from English into Russian) in this compartment every day. If during this process you remember the word put the card in the second compartment, if not keep it in the first one.
In the second compartment you should repeat words from English into Russian twice a week. If you remember the word it goes into the third compartment.
In the third compartment you should repeat words from English into Russian once a week.
In the forth compartment repeat the words from Russian into English once a week.
In the fifth compartment repeat the words from English into Russian once in 2-3 weeks.
In the final six compartment repeat the words from Russian into English once a month
After the word will go through all six compartments you will definitely remember it during TOEFL and very likely won't forget for the rest of your life :-)
