RESTORING TIBETAN MONASTERIES

Injecting glue to forestall delamination

| The purpose of this program is to restore and preserve architecture and art on the eastern Tibetan plateau. It was begun in 1991 by the China Exploration & Research Society; it's now operated entirely by the Kham Aid Foundation. In my role as program director I have led regular missions of foreign conservation experts to Tibetan monasteries in Dege County, Sichuan. Details maybe found on the CERS/KAF Monastery Conservation Project home page, which is hosted by the gallant folks at Web Art Publishing. I'm now writing a book about the work at Baiya Monastery (above). |
