CHINA EXPLORATIONS

| As the
recipient of two Durfee
Foundation fellowships, I have traveled over
a good bit of the People's Republic: by plane, train,
ferry, bus, truck, horse, bicycle, yak-hide coracle and
on foot. Here is a map
[37k] of where I've been, and some of my published
articles about the
Tibetan plateau, Inner
Mongolia, Yunnan,
and Xinjiang.
In 1996 the Scientific Exploration Society of Great Britain named me Woman Explorer of the Year. In 1997 I was elected a Fellow of the Explorer's Club. See also Info for China travelers, an official list of open counties and cities in the PRC, plus special information for Tibet explorers. : Please do NOT write me for advice about your upcoming China or Tibet or Central Asia trip, unless you are going to Kham. I have been getting a lot of this kind of mail lately, and I just don't have time to answer it any more. Try the Lonely Planet web site for travel queries. If you're going to Kham, you can write me, but please see this first. |
