Weather in Dege

September is the best time of year for travel in eastern Tibet. The weather in Dege is dry and sunny, although late monsoon cloudbursts are a possibility. Days are warm, nights are cool, and nighttime lows will usually drop below freezing. Of the overnight stops, the highest elevation is at Dordra Gonpa at 4000 meters or 13,200 feet. The highest pass we cross by car is about 5000 meters or 16,500 feet. Passes crossed on horseback are considerably lower. In Chengdu expect warm, moist, rainy conditions.
