The Durfee Foundation American/Chinese Adventure Capital Program

For the real story, check out their home page at, which is expected to come on-line in early summer, 1997. If they're not reachable, then see the information below:

The Durfee Foundation offers grants for China travel to students, staff, faculty, resident artists, and recent graduates of Caltech, Claremont Graduate School, Claremont McKenna College, The Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens, The L.A. County Museum of Art, Harvey Mudd College, The Performing Arts Council of the L.A. Music Center, Occidental College, Pitzer College, Pomona College, and Scripps College.

Another example of a Durfee-sponsored project is Don Hoard and Stefanie Wachter's journey to find (and learn about) the Baiji, a type of fresh-water dolphin found only in the Yangtze River. They have posted their excellent and fascinating report, which includes many photos.
