The Karen Wells Birthday Skyline to the Sea Run

BAD Runners and friends gather at Saratoga Gap early in the morning to begin the first Annual Skyline to the Sea Karen Wells' Birthday Run. From the left: Tracey Chmielewski, Karen Wells, Rochelle, Hinkmond Wong, Dee-Dee, Lauren Lechner, Steve Patt, Dave Combs, Ian Hersey. Rochelle and Dee-Dee are tri-friends of Karen's; Tracey and Ian were visiting (and honorary) BAD Runners; the rest are real BAD. Tracey thinks the rest of us are wimps with our tights.

One of the many fabulous views along the route, which was almost entirely single-track trails through beautiful wooded areas.

28 (or so) miles later, on the beach at Waddell Creek, the group assembles. From the left, Debi Jamison, Steve, Tracey (who's the wimp now, Tracey?), Lauren, organizer par excellence Rick Schaefer, Karen, and Dave. Steve, Karen, Lauren, and Dave ran the whole way; Debi and Rick joined in for the last 10.5 mile segment.

Postscript: Steve and Ian did a 61-mile bike ride the next day, including an ascent of the Metcalf Mauler.
