I did my Ph.D in Control and Robotics at the California Institute of Technology. My thesis was on control of flexible link robots for grasping.

Grasping with Flexible Link Robots: Trying to achieve hybrid control (control where force and position are controlled in "orthogonal" direction in the robotics literature) is difficult because the robot changes shape as a result of the control action. I was developing general control methods for achieving this. You can get to a somewhat dated page on this by clicking here. My thesis is also available online.

Modeling and Control of Combustion Instabilities: After my Ph.D. I did a brief Post Doc. on modeling and controlling of combustion instabilities.

Robotic Microsurgery: At Computer Motion I worked in the robotic microsurgery group.

MEMS based Optical Switching: At OMM I worked on developing MEMS scanner based "3D" optical switching systems.

Biotechnology: My current employer is a biotechnology startup. We develop and deploy various cellular screening and diagnostic technologies.
