Some of the poetry I've written over the years.

Recent Poems

Stuff I've written relatively recently.

Lost and Found
This came about after reading William Bridges' Transitions.

Stalking
A line from T. S. Eliot's poem Gerontion stuck in my head for years, until I wrote this.

Voices in Sheol
Another one that was in my head for a long time before it came out. I'm pretty pleased with this one.

Sunset
Sometimes, a poem leaps up from wherever these things come from, and demands to be written. Other times, a poem comes about because you have a couple of hours to kill on an airplane. This would be one of those latter ones.

Short Poems About Crows

We have a lot of crows in Seattle. I like crows; they're smart and tricksy.

I Saw a Crow on Campus Today
A Vagrant in Ragged Black Feathers
I Had a Dream of Crows
This poem was part of an exhibit titled "As the Crow Flies" at the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center in Auburn, New York, in September 2005.

The Bus Poem

Every year, the Seattle bus system takes submissions of poetry; the winners are printed on advertisement-sized placards and posted on buses. One year, one of my poems was chosen.

Narnia Poems

One year, my church did a Narnia-themed series of activities over Wednesday evenings in Lent; it was all based on the first of C. S. Lewis' Narnia books, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Part of the fun was that everybody had a secret "Narnia buddy," and you were supposed to bring them little gifts or something each week. My "buddy" was playing the part of Tumnus, and I decided that I would write light verse for her — a decision I came to regret, because light verse is freakin' hard. Nevertheless, I stuck at it, and here are the results.

Narnia 2
Narnia 3
